Reports To: Chief Science Officer

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement, maintain and continuously improve the ISO/IEC:17025 quality management system and associated documentation and procedures.
  • Facilitate development and delivery of ISO/IEC:17025 quality management system training.
  • Responsible for overseeing safety and security of laboratory facilities including maintaining current knowledge of all relevant protocols, regulations, standards, and safety procedures as well as developing and maintaining standard operating procedures.
  • Oversee personnel functions such as interviewing, selecting, training, supervising, evaluating performance, and/or developing staff, work schedules, and assignments.
  • Lead the preparation of strategic plans and annual work plans; develop, implement, improve, monitor, and evaluate programs, projects, workflow, methods, and work products in accordance with business objectives, budgets, and polices; perform various specialized financial, revenue, budgetary, and management studies and analyses.
  • Accept, review, and investigate issues with laboratory policies, including participating in, overseeing, and approving policy updates or changes.
  • Manage and direct the development, implementation, and evaluation of laboratory work standards, programs, plans, processes, systems, and procedures; conduct analysis of laboratory programs and services to identify and formulate improvements and efficiencies; initiate changes to code, policy, and procedures related to the laboratory.
  • Provide leadership to attract, develop, and retain diverse, highly competent, service-oriented staff that support the business mission, objectives, and service expectations; create and promote an equitable workplace that demonstrates an environment respectful of living and working in a multicultural society; ensure that employees are provided with guidance and opportunity to correct deficiencies, and appropriate discipline procedures are implemented.
  • Maintain and/or oversee maintenance and testing of equipment and instruments to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and safety of performance.
  • Oversee inventory management such as selecting, purchasing, storing, and allocating of laboratory equipment, supplies, and data analysis tools.
  • Work effectively with external organizations, consultants, government agencies and other relevant networks.
  • Work professionally with existing and new clients ensuring a high standard of quality customer service.
  • Respond promptly to internal and external inquiries.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Degree or diploma in a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5+ years of laboratory experience in an ISO/IEC:17025 accredited laboratory with direct experience in the implementation and maintenance of accreditation.
  • Minimum 5+ years in a supervisory role.
  • Ability to convey highly technical information related to laboratory analyses to staff and outside personnel.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, present information, proposals, and recommendations clearly and persuasively in public settings.
  • Hands-on laboratory experience.
  • Proficient in technical writing, must be able to write clearly and concisely.
  • Understand laboratory equipment and follow technical manuals with accuracy and proficiency.
  • Possess a high level of organisational, time management skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong computer literacy skills, including the Microsoft suite of products and database applications.
