Role Overview

Purity-IQ is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director of Business Development to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive sales experience in the natural health products / supplements, food, and beverage sectors, and be well-networked with manufacturers / suppliers, brand owners and retailers in these target industries.  As the Director of Business Development specializing in global authenticity testing and certification, you will lead the strategic expansion of our business by establishing and nurturing partnerships with key stakeholders worldwide. Your primary focus will be to drive sales of our comprehensive suite of testing and certification to support clients with compliance requirements. 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Market Penetration and Strategy

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive strategy to drive growth, penetrate new markets and expand our global footprint in recurring authenticity testing and certification.
  • Drive Purity-IQ awareness and use of the Purity-IQ Certification Program and trustmark with key brand stakeholders.

Client Engagement and Relationship Management

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key decision makers and stakeholders including food safety, quality, regulatory, and category managers within key manufacturers / suppliers, brand owners, and retailers.
  • Conduct regular client meetings, presentations, and workshops to understand their evolving needs and challenges and effectively position our solutions.
  • Represent Purity-IQ at industry events, trade shows, and conferences to enhance brand visibility and build professional networks.

Solution Selling and Consultative Approach

  • Collaborate with internal technical and science teams to develop customized solutions tailored to address clients' specific requirements related to ingredient/product authenticity, food fraud, quality assurance, and supply chain management.
  • Utilize a consultative sales approach to educate clients on the value proposition of our offerings and provide strategic insights to support their business objectives.

Proposal Development and Contract Negotiation

  • Lead the development of compelling proposals, business cases, and presentations for prospective clients, highlighting the unique benefits and ROI of our services.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts to secure profitable deals while ensuring alignment with clients' expectations.

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate closely with internal teams including science, technical, marketing, product development, and operations to drive successful execution of business development initiatives and ensure seamless client onboarding.
  • Provide feedback and insights from the field to inform product/service enhancements, market positioning, and go-to-market strategies.

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Manage the sales pipeline, from lead generation to closing deals, ensuring achievement of revenue targets.
  • Track, analyze, and report on sales performance metrics, pipeline activity, and revenue forecasts to evaluate the effectiveness of business development efforts and identify opportunities for improvement.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, food science, or related field. Advanced degrees or relevant certifications are a plus.
  • Familiarity with analytical testing methods (qPCR, NMR, GC/MS, HPTLC et al) would be an asset.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in business development roles within the food and beverage industry, dietary supplements industry and/or the food safety industry, with a proven track record of driving sales to large manufacturers/suppliers, brand owners, and retailers on a global scale.
  • Solid understanding of regulations affecting product health claims, voluntary global food safety quality standards, and industry best practices, with a focus on certifications such as health claims, ISO, HACCP, SQF, GFSI, etc.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence key decision-makers at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical capabilities, with the ability to translate market insights into actionable business plans and revenue-generating opportunities.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in solution selling, consultative sales techniques, and complex contract negotiations.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment and drive results in a dynamic and fast-paced setting.
  • Experience in managing and growing strategic accounts, with a focus on long-term relationship building and customer retention.
